Do Porcelain Veneers Correct Gaps in Teeth?
2 Minute Read:
Does the large gap between your front teeth make you feel uneasy whenever you smile?
Porcelain veneers can be used to create a straight, gap-less, and more natural-looking smile that will make you the envy of all your friends.
How Do Porcelain Veneers Close the Gap?
Veneers are custom-made, thin pieces of porcelain applied to front-facing surfaces of teeth to conceal gaps. Besides correcting gaps, veneers also address cosmetic concerns such as odd teeth size, discoloration, chips, and cracks.
For patients with unevenly spaced teeth but who have no other advanced orthodontic issues, porcelain veneers are an excellent option to help improve the cosmetic appearance of their smiles.
During the veneer application process, Dr. Fiss will remove a tiny portion of the surface enamel from the teeth that will receive the veneers, so that your custom-made veneers fit perfectly with your smile line.
An impression of your teeth is made and sent out to a dental laboratory to create custom veneers. Temporary veneers can be worn during this time to protect your teeth as you wait for your new pearly whites to be made and sent to Dr. Fiss.
Once ready, a second appointment is scheduled, and the durable dental porcelain veneers are placed on the tooth to cover gaps, stubborn discoloration, and chips.
Veneers are also used to recontour the tooth, creating the illusion of a longer or straighter tooth. When perfectly fitted, Dr. Fiss will permanently bond them to your teeth to create the final look.
What Are the Benefits of Porcelain Veneers?
Natural Tooth Appearance
Your custom veneers are fabricated in a way that closes the gap while looking natural. They can be customized in color, size, and shape for aesthetically pleasing results. As a bonus, veneers are brighter, whiter, and stain-resistant so you don’t have to worry about retaining a white smile despite your love for coffee or red wine.
Strong and Durable
Porcelain veneers can last for many years — up to 15 years or more if you care for them well and maintain good oral hygiene habits. This is quite a long time compared to dental bonding, which often only lasts around five years.
While veneers are an excellent option for closing unsightly gaps, the gap needs to be in a size that allows your natural teeth to fully support the porcelain. Otherwise, an alternative option like Invisalign® or ClearCorrect™ may be needed to reposition your teeth.
During your consultation, Dr. Fiss will carefully examine your gaps to determine if porcelain veneers will offer sufficient treatment to your specific situation.
